What is the difference between scholarly and popular publications?

Answer

Scholarly publications usually are articles in academic, peer-reviewed journals. You can find these types of articles in the Kares Library databases. Books also contain scholarly research. Popular publications contain various types of information and are usually not considered scholarly.

Scholarly journals/articles are best defined by their characteristics. Please see the Quick Guide for Scholarly Articles for a comparison of scholarly journals to general, popular magazines.
